On my radar : Knit co-ord sets.
During my recent year-end trip, I stumbled upon a clothing style that piqued my interest—something I can only describe as a cosy, chic knit two-piece set, or a co-ord.
I’ve always had a soft spot for knitwear, especially during the colder months. However, over the past few years, the opportunity to wear it in my city of Dakar has been rare. Post-Covid, the weather just hasn’t been cold enough to warrant a warm sweater or knit piece. But lately, I’ve been feeling the urge to add a knit two-piece to my wardrobe.
The ones I’m drawn to, however, aren’t to be mistaken for the jogger sets you see everyone rocking at airports and on weekends. These are different. They’re lighter in weight and have a sleek, minimal structure. Though they resemble sweats in some ways, they exude a certain class—maybe because of the fabrics, the understated colours, or the refined silhouette. Unlike joggers, these don’t have an elastic band at the ankle and are never plastered with oversized logos or bold messages. They’re muted, almost quiet in their style.
Here are a few that have caught my eye:
I’ve always had a thing for clothes that remind me of loungewear or pyjama sets, and these are no exception. The lightweight fabric is perfect for the unpredictable climate in Dakar, and the best part? They’re practically wrinkle-free—no ironing required. I’m especially fond of the wide-leg designs. I can easily envision wearing them to the office, running errands, or even on a long flight.
For those of us still holding on to the festive vibes, there’s something about a knit set embellished with sequins or other sparkly details that would be perfect for a night out. Bonus: you can easily mix and match the top and bottom with more casual pieces for a toned-down look when you're not in the mood for all-out glamour.
While I was shopping in Cairo for souvenirs, I came across a stunning knitted dress and poncho set. The colour and texture immediately drew me in, and I just had to have it. I’ve been wearing it non-stop since I got back, mostly the dress. It’s a bit oversized (I bought it in a clothing store for Muslim Women), but I’m actually loving how it fits now. I wish I had more sets like this—so simple yet so easy to throw on.
So, if you're looking for something practical yet stylish to keep you warm this Winter, these knit two-piece sets are a perfect choice. And if I can manage to find the perfect pair of leather booties to go with them, I’ll be set!
