DIY - Orchid sandals

 Hi Y'All!

This season I fell in love with everything floral. I even did a collection called BLOOM. Flowers are everywhere in the fashion world, therefore it is kind of hard to miss them.

In my last Closet Cravings post, I did state that I wanted a Senegalese designer's orchid sandals. I knew the price of the sandals was steep. However, I was willing to invest in the pair if they were really of high quality. I found the shoes on a random day, at a concept store near my workplace and tried them on. Frankly, they were cute and well made. But upon trying them on, they did not look as sturdy as I would have liked. Maybe it is a problem of weight, or maybe I was just not willing to invest that much money into a pair of shoes I did not feel comfortable in. I put a mental note to DIY the shoes if I find the right material.

One Saturday, while walking in the market looking for fabric for my collection, I stumbled upon a shop selling beauty supply and accessories. I found orchid hair clips in colors I fancied: pink, yellow, orange, and blues. Yes, they were not of high quality, but they looked so cute, I bought 6 of them on the spot. Earlier that day, I had purchased second hand black sandals. I needed a new pair that had block heels for work. I realized that the hair clips would be perfect with the shoes.

Once I arrived home, I proceeded to DIY the sandals. I just attached the hair clip on the upper strap of the shoes. It was relatively easy. And it turned out super cute. I even walked a few meters to check if the clip would hurt. Luckily it did not. I like the idea of leaving the clip on the hair clip. I could remove it and have the flower glued to the sandals. However, if I do so, I would not have the option to wear the black sandals as they are.

Final result

The entire DIY cost me 8500 XOF  ($16 or 13), 5000 XOF for the sandals and 3500 XOF for 6 hair clips. Granted that I used only 2 hair clips, It finally cost me way less.

So what do you think? Is this something you would like to try? Or are just going to buy the shoes?

I also posted a Tiktok about it. Check it out here
