Back to the Basics: Blazer
Blazers are my second favorite outerwear after kimonos. If I love Kimonos for their fluidity, I adore Blazers for their structure. They are the perfect add on to any outfit, casual or formal.
I already own several but I think these are a must have in any women's closet:
- The classic one:
One button, two buttons, single breasted, double breasted, this blazer is a structured as it gets. Furthermore, it should fit you properly. The sleeves should not be too long and the length should hit you right at the hips. You should also be able to button it. You can never go wrong choosing a blazer like this because it will compliment any formal outfit brilliantly.
- The over-sized one:
I am partial towards over-sized blazer. I like how they are lose fitting and long. I also like the fact that I can fold the sleeves. Maybe it is the 80's kid in me. But this type of blazer is perfect for layering knits cardigans and sweaters underneath it. And if you need a little definition, just add a belt of a scarf to it.
- The open front one:
As its name indicates, it is a open blazer with no buttons or snaps. It can have a draped look depending on the fabric used. It is also a hassle free type of blazer. I really enjoy them because they can be so soft and feminine.
There are other types of blazer out there. Chose one that fits you and is versatile. I always go for neutral colors with my blazers first because they are easier to mix and match. But you can also get one in a vibrant color or print. It all depends on what you plan to wear it with. Whatever it is, it will remain a staple in your closet.
