What to wear at a Bachelorette Party
So, a colleague of mine recently got married. She is french, which means she had her wedding in France and I could not attend. But she decided to have a bachelorette party in Dakar with her work colleagues and Senegalese friends just before she left. (More on that party here)
Her party inspired me to write a post about party attire. If you are invited to one, what would you wear?
I have to admit that bachelorette parties are not really the norm in Senegal. Back in the days, the bride would go through some kind of "training" where her aunties would give her advice about married life and all there is to it. But nowadays, more and more Young to be married women tend to have bachelorette parties.
But let us get back to the topic at hand: What do you wear at a Bachelorette Party?
I think it all depends on what type of bachelorette party it will be. Is it an impromptu thing, or a theme party? Will it be at home or at a location (bar, nightclub, restaurant).
Theme bachelorette party:
They are easier to dress for because there is a theme to respect. Usually the person in charge of the party will have clothes ready for the entire gang to match. It could be matching tee-shirts, dresses, sashes. If that is not the case for the party you will attend, you have to understand the theme and adhere to it whether you like it or not. Remember the party is for your friend, not you. It could be a slumber party theme, a beach party theme, or a henna party theme. For my friend's party, the theme was "Sabar" which is a Senegalese traditional dance party with drums. Therefore we were supposed to dress in comfortable African attire, which meant mostly lose fitted dresses or camisole and wrap around skirts that could allow us to dance at ease.
Location:
If the bachelorette party is to be held at a bar or a club, dress accordingly. I suggest going for cocktail dresses, fitted jumpsuits, sparkly tops and mini skirts. Basically something sexy and fun.
But if it is an at home type of party, or at a nice restaurant, wear something lady like: a nice midi dress or a blouse and bottoms.
Remember, we are living in the Instagrammable days. So you have to put extra care and attention to your outfit for you to be able to shine in all pictures. Rest assure that they will be blasted in all social media (lol). However, do not forget that you are there to celebrate the Bride to be and have fun. So wear your best feature: you smile and enjoy!!!
