Halston Heritage Pleated dresses (IOICAT)

SJP wearing a gold pleated Halston dress at the Met Gala 2010

If it were not for Sarah Jessica Parker (and Sex and the City), I would have lived my life without knowing about Halston. (As a matter of fact, if it were not for Carrie Bradshaw, I would have lived my life without being aware of many brands)
I fell in love with Halston dresses worn by SJP on SATC 2. I thought the dresses were beautiful, and very simple. Plus they seemed to be easy to wear. I enjoy being comfortable while dressing. In fact, I would sacrifice fashion for comfort. I know it is a true taboo among fashionista, but I have a feeling that with Halston pleated dresses, I could be both (comfortable and fashionable) without compromising. But it is not the only reason these Halston dresses are appealing to me. They remind me of a a pleated top I was in love with. I purchased it in Korea hundred years ago. It was in light blue, with spaghetti straps and very flowy. As much as I loved the top I wore it only once to a Craig David concert. Last year I gave it to my sister in law because I knew that with her, the top will get more time out of the closet. I saw her wear it and it fits her very well. I do not regret giving it to her. Yet seeing the Halston dresses makes me covet another item like that. As they say: "you do not know what you got till it's gone"
Anyway, I need to get the money to purchase one of these pleated dresses. They are not overpriced like many other designer's dresses. Yet I guess I need to be making serious money if I want to indulge in owning one.

On a side note: since 2010, SJP became the chief creative officer of Halston. She is involved in the design of more affordable line of Halston products. And she has been the face of the company for a while now. The reason why I even know about that company and covet the dresses

Color me block

Spring= blooming flowers

blooming flowers= bright colors

bright colors= bright clothes

bright clothes= color blocking

For those of you who do not know about colorblocking (although I am pretty sure that if you are a fashion fan like me, you know about it), I found this definition on the Internet:
"Colour block ... combines the use of two or more blocks of colour in an ensemble... Simply it means – creating an outfit by putting areas or blocks of solid color next to each other."

I enjoy colors, bold colors. However I do not beleive that I have tried colorblocking before. Being a true Senegalese, I am a pro at color matching (the art of matching the colors in an outfit. For example: today I wore a a purple tunic over a black long sleeve top and black slacks, and I paired it all with black velvet shoes with a purple flower). But I have to say that although I appreciate color blocking on the runway and shop displays (and some bloggers), I have never tried the trend.
Well, I am no longer waiting. As a true follower, I will give in to the trend. And here are a few choices. Will they make it out of my house?

Not so much for colorblocking:
Striped scarf - Walmart
Orange top - Liz clairbone maternity for Target
Green slacks- Zara
Yellow shoes - Rampage
Stacks of bracelet - Indian shop in Harwin

Subtle colorblocking:
Meshed scarf - can't remember
Knit cut and sew - Random shop in Korea
Blue maxi dress - H&M
Gold sandals - thrifted

Neon colorblocking:
Hat - Ross
Knitted bolero - can't remember
Neon yellow top - 390 Mart
Fuschia cropped pants - Zara
Small tote bag - 100 Y shop in Saty
Neon sports shoes - shoes shop in Ishikawacho

Love the Zara Spring lookbook. Definitely an inspiration for colorblocking.

the Gucci Spring 2011RTW Collection is also fab

Bright Colors

"We covet what we see.."
"..every day"
Silence of the Lambs

If you read my last posts, you can see that colors have been on my mind lately. Being Summer and all,  it is not hard to find colors all around from Nature to fashion items. Going out becomes a fun pain because I cannot concentrate on what I am suppose to do. Instead my eyes wander on clothes and I drift into a dream of red, royal blue, green, bright yellow, mustard, orange, coral....

I am in love with colors. I like all colors of the palette. I think all colors suit me perfectly (except beige and it depends on the beige). And I will not hesitate to buy something if I like the style and color. However, I am lacking primary colors in my closet. I checked everywhere but except from heavy sweaters and long tee, I do not own items in red, blue, green and orange. That is why I decided that (unless I fall for something totally different like a maxi dress in pastel blue that was not on my shopping list but that I purchased anyway just because) my next purchases will involve items in these colors:
